Which Gmail filter has starred this message?, Superstars, &c

"Which Gmail filter has starred this message"
or the broader question,
"Which of my Gmail filters have been used to alter the state of this message"
When searching for an answer to the above question (all of which seemed unsatisfactory, and cause me to realize that once again I am on the bleeding edge ("You Can Tell The Pioneers By The Arrows In Their Backs") in my use of a large number of Gmail filters, I did come upon this answer, which I think may help me out.  At least if I use different star types when starring mail to highlight it, I will then be able to see which rule was in effect to do so.  Is it better than assigning a unique label for a given rule every time a rule stars a messages?  Dunno, that is the other workaround I thought of.  (Or to give up on the auto-starring and hope Priority Inbox is good enough for all my interest, it is pretty good already).
I am still interested in the "real" answer to the above question, rather than editing my mail-starring rules, so if you know it, please advise!!!

Gmail Superstars

One of the 13 features added to Gmail Labs in May is Superstars, an extension of Gmail's starring system. Instead of using a single star to flag all the messages, you can choose between 12 icons.

After enabling Superstars in Gmail Labs and clicking on "Save changes", go to thesettings and select the icons you want to use. The exclamation mark is useful to flag important messages, quotes could show that a message needs a reply, while the info icon could be used for messages that contain valuable information.

To star messages faster, enable keyboard shortcuts in the settings. "The superstars will rotate when you press the 's' keyboard shortcut or when you click successively," explains Google. "Rotating through the superstars only works when you click (or hit 's') successively. If you pause for a second, then the next click will turn off the superstar. It's designed this way so that if you never click successively, then you'll just get the original on/off toggle behavior."

If you want to find the messages that have a certain kind of star, use one of the following queries:
has:yellow-star (or l:^ss_sy)
has:blue-star (or l:^ss_sb)
has:red-star (or l:^ss_sr)
has:orange-star (or l:^ss_so)
has:green-star (or l:^ss_sg)
has:purple-star (or l:^ss_sp)
has:red-bang (or l:^ss_cr)
has:yellow-bang (or l:^ss_cy)
has:blue-info (or l:^ss_cb)
has:orange-guillemet (or l:^ss_co)
has:green-check (or l:^ss_cg)
has:purple-question (or l:^ss_cp)

You can enable the Quick Links labs feature to save some of these queries so that they are always accessible with a single click. Just search for has:blue-star or any other value and click on "Add Quick Link".

A stroll around Pompeii, courtesy of Google's Street View

//
If you can’t be one of
the 2.5 million tourists who wander through the streets of Pompeii every year,
you now have another option: Google’s Street View.
The 360-degree panoramic street-level service debuted last week in theancient Roman town that was buried in Mount Vesuvius’ catastrophic eruption in 79 A.D.
Statues, temples, amphitheaters, as well as close-up views of houses, bakeries and baths are now visible on the search engine’s free mapping service.
Virtual tours of archaeological sites abound on the Web and in DVDs. With just a few clicks, you can easily take a tour of ancient Rome, enter Egypt’s Great Pyramid or climb the Acropolis in Greece.
The problem is that too often these computer reconstructions look the same. As you move your mouse around, you are taken into unrealistic, clean, lifeless, plastic-coated landscapes.
Google’s Street View application offers a much more realistic and lively experience, making you feel as if you were walking down a street among many other tourists.
The opportunity to walk virtually through the wonders of Pompeii is a powerful way to boost Italian tourism.

“The opportunity to walk virtually through the wonders of Pompeii is a powerful way to boost Italian tourism. It will actually encourage many potential tourists to come in person to visit the archaeological site,” Mario Resca, from the ministry’s heritage promotion department, said.
Despite recent efforts to spruce up Pompeii by opening up new sites, hosting theatrical events, and taking care of the stray dogs, Street View highlights the deteriorating condition of the ruins.
“From a conservation point of view it is now obvious to a larger number of the public how much the site has suffered,” Blogging Pompeii, a blog for people and archaeologists working at Pompeii, noted.
Launched in 2007, Google’s Street View provides panoramic street-level views of more than 100 cities around the world.
Recent additions include the prehistoric site of Stonehenge, the ancient Spanish city of Caceres and the Palace of Versailles, the official residence of the Kings of France.

How to schedule emails on Gmail to send later via Boomerang, thanks to Internet Techies

How to schedule emails on Gmail to send later

I am using Gmail for email communication since a long time but I was missing email scheduling over there. As there is no default option in Gmail to schedule an email for future date and time but now using Boomerang, you can schedule email on Gmail and do many more thing as well. Boomerang for Gmail is an extension for Google Chrome and ad-on for Mozilla Firefox which enables users to schedule emails on Gmail for future date to send that later. Yes, you don’t need to be online at that time when email is supposed to deliver (I mean this is what scheduling means).

Security: As Boomerang is delivering your emails, you will think about data security. There is no security lapse in using Boomerang as it only takes the header section of your email i.e. sender ID, subject, date and time to deliver the mail. It doesn’t save body content on its server, so you don’t need to worry about the security.
Currently Boomerang extension is available on invitation only. You can use below link where I have already put one invitation code in URL “b4gbeta” so it will not ask you for invitation code. If that invitation code doesn’t work, you can check Twitter Search to get another invitation code.
Once you will install this extension on Chrome, you can see a new link “Manage Boomerang” on your email dashboard. Here are some screenshots showing how you can schedule emails on Gmail using Boomerang extension.

How does Boomerang schedule emails on Gmail?

1. Open a new message editing window by clicking on “Compose Email”. There you can see a new drop down button with text “Send Later”.
boomerang option
2. Write something in the body area and provide subject, recipient address. Now click on Save button to save the message as draft. After that you can use “Send Later” button to schedule the email. For scheduling, email message should be present in the draft. Under “Send Later” button, you can see following options,
boomerang options for schedulingSend Message
1. At a specific time
2. In 1 hour
3. In 2 hours
4. In 4 hours
5. Tomorrow Morning
6. Tomorrow Afternoon
7. In 2 days
8. In 4 days
9. In 1 week
10. In 1 month
11. Random Time
Choose any option as per your convenience and schedule the email message for that time period.

Important: Boomerang works on normal Gmail account as well as Google Apps custom Gmail account. If you are using Google Apps Gmail, then also you can schedule emails thru this extension.
By using Boomerang, you can control the receiving of emails as well. When do you want messages to appear in Inbox. You can also add “Stars” for particular messages for attention. Google Priority Inbox is there for filtering important messages but that option is not yet available in Google Apps Emails. So you can use Boomerang over there.

Smarter: Google or LinkedIn? Principle Engineer: Auugggh! Fix It! No such title! , etc...

Further proof that Google/Gmail is smarter than LinkedIn:
Gmail:
Did you mean: principal engineer no such title
LinkedIn:
Looking for Principle Engineer candidates? Post your Principle Engineer job on LinkedIn.

Also, it's now up to 9100+ current or former "Principle Engineer"s in my LinkedIn!   Double Auuggh!

What it says to me when I see "Principle Engineer" on a resume:
"Not only am I an engineer that cannot spell, I also cannot spell even when it truly matters"   :-)

SymbolHound - Programmer's search for special characters? - Stack Overflow

google - Search engine for special characters? - Stack Overflow:

[Connie says: I'll show a search I did with symbolhound at the end of this post.  This is a Google-like search, except useful for looking for code constructs.  I have found a few special characters can be successfully escaped and quoted in Google search, but you definitely *cannot* search for      {0,}      for instance.]

Google strips most special characters from the text they index so it's not a good tool for many troubleshooting-related tasks, such as finding out what the variable "$-" is in perl, or searching for error output that is loaded with special characters.
Is there a good way to search for such content on the web?
This question is related to the following question: Looking for special characters in Google

I'm a Google employee who works on Search and I want to say that you're right, Google and other search engines allow only limited special character searching. Is there a specific example (or two or three!) of a query the delivers unsatisfactory results precisely because the special character is ignored? Thanks! Kelly – Kelly F Jan 14 '11 at 0:55
Yes. When searching for tetration-related discussions I tried to search for x^x and x^x^x, with Rambler search engine this worked, but now it does not because it abandoned its own engine last year and uses Yandex now. Another example was when I was searching for 0^0 to be sure what result is correct for that expression when discovered that Gnome and KDE calculators returned different results (KDE's returned 0 while Gnome's returned 1). I filled a bugreport against KDE and now this is fixed. This would be impossible without Rambler working at the time. – Anixx Apr 18 at 21:54
@KellyF Yes I want to search for the exact phrase "/livereload", WITH the slash. I have queries like this all the time that I simply can't do with Google. – Gerry May 18 at 12:59

This search engine was made to solve exactly the kind of problem you're having:http://symbolhound.com/
Full disclosure: I am the developer of SymbolHound and just launched it a couple weeks ago.
