Cold weather water freeze protection

Think you already know all this, but I liked this summary.

  • Keep cabinet doors open leading to exposed pipes (such as access doors for sinks), so that household air can warm them.
  • If you have an attached garage, keep the doors shut. Occasionally, plumbing is routed through this unheated space, leaving it vulnerable to winter's worst.
  • Keep your thermostat set above 65 degrees when leaving your house or business for several days.
Those 3 steps are all of the steps I think we need to follow.  We never do the dripping faucet thing here, and it's always been fine.  Here's the full article if you're still curious:

What is "Proof of Loss of Coverage? (to qualify for Special Enrollment period for health insurance)", thanks to Take Command Help Center

"
  • A letter from an employer, on official letterhead or stationery, that confirms one of these about you or your spouse or dependent family member:That your employer dropped or will drop your coverage or benefits. That your employer stopped or will stop contributing to your cost of coverage. That your employer changed or will change coverage or benefits, and your coverage will no longer be considered qualifying health coverage.

  • A letter about COBRA coverage, like a letter from an employer or health insurance company that confirms these:Your employer's offer of COBRA coverage along with the date this coverage would start.Your COBRA coverage ended or will end, or your employer stopped or will stop contributing to the cost of coverage and when."

I'm guessing "letter from employer" includes a letter to the above effect, signed by your supervisor, as long as it's on letterhead. We can't be the first people to want this. Also, maybe the second letter (COBRA) would be issued automatically, although maybe not in time (the proof of eligibility for special enrollment must be supplied within 30 days of a demand letter that may arrive after I apply for insurance, or can instead submit a letter explaining why I can't get such proof in time).

distrust of other’s silent consensus about reality

I had always missed this last aspect mentioned below, that makes "misanthrope" such an apropos description of certain difficult people.  I learn new things every day…  ;-)
"Misanthropy is a personality trait characterized by a general dislike, distrust, or hatred of the human species or a disposition to dislike and/or distrust other people's silent consensus about reality."

Marshall fire volunteering ideas: COLORADO RESPONDS

Marshall Fire resources

City of BoulderCount Me In - City of Boulder

Dear Connie,

We want to reach out in the wake of the heartbreaking loss and destruction due to fires in Boulder County. Our thoughts and heavy hearts go out to you and everyone impacted. We are all struggling to find words to express our sadness.

We are thinking of each of you. We'd like to share the email below from the Community Foundation, which includes information on where to donate, volunteer, and get support for those impacted by the fires. See below this message.

At times like no other, we all want to help, and yet there are feelings of helplessness along with a desire to serve. We are still in the very early days of processing this disaster. Right now, we can share this site, coordinated by the Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, as one option: https://coloradoresponds.communityos.org/. You can sign up here and when they are ready for volunteers, they will contact you. And, if we hear anything more about ways to volunteer, we will let you know.

We are grateful for each and every one of you, and we hold each of those who have been directly impacted in our hearts and will do all we can to support you. For everyone else, we appreciate you, your continued resilience, and your service to our community. These will be challenging months ahead, and together we will work through them.

In solidarity,

Kate Kelsch, Christine Burke, and all the Library Staff

As needs arise, we will post here. Thank you for continuing to step up for your neighbors in need."

We will continue to work closely with our government and nonprofit partners to support the needs of the community as they emerge. We want to thank everyone for your support and generosity in this difficult moment for Boulder County.

Warmly,

Tatiana Hernandez
