FINDING VALUE IN CHASE POINTS |
On a recent road trip with her young family, my sister-in-law redeemed IHG points for accommodations in Pittsburgh and an overnight stay on the way to the city (pictured above). However, she was struggling to find a good-value IHG redemption for her overnight on the way home.
She signed up for the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card a few years ago, mainly so she'd receive the card's primary car rental insurance benefit. So, my husband and I suggested she look for a Category 1 Hyatt property along her route. After all, she could transfer Chase points to Hyatt.
We found a Category 1 Hyatt Place that would work for her both because of its location and its family-friendly features, including ample space for everyone to stretch out and complimentary breakfast. So, she transferred Chase points to Hyatt and then redeemed 5,000 World of Hyatt points for a room that otherwise would have cost $186.
While she often redeems her Chase points for a value of about 1.25 cents each when booking travel through the Ultimate Rewards portal, she was able to get 3.72 cents per point by transferring to Hyatt for this stay. With paid rates so high these days, taking advantage of the World of Hyatt award chart can provide excellent value.
Here are some other ways to get a ton of value from your Chase points: |
