Independent, Innovative, and Unprotected
Freelancers and independent workers—30% of the U.S. workforce—have been battered by the worst downturn since the Great Depression, but an outdated safety net is failing them. In our just-released survey, we learned that 81% of freelancers were unemployed or underemployed, 40% didn't get paid by deadbeat clients, and 39% cut back or eliminated health coverage. Find out more and see our recommendations to protect freelancers

Job Tracker Updates
We've added a new feature to Job Tracker, our Facebook app. You can now create a personal Job Tracker RSS feed and publish it to your LinkedIn profile, Facebook business/fan page, personal blog, or any other place you want to display a list of your most recent projects. You can find the link in your "My Stats" box. With 500+ freelancers already using the app, if you haven't added Job Tracker yet, now's a great time to do it.

How Do You Like Your Taxes?

From Our Partners: Independent Film Week
Independent Film Week is the oldest and largest forum in the U.S. for the discovery of new projects in development and new voices on the independent film scene. The Project Forum is a meetings-driven forum connecting filmmakers who have new projects with industry executives interested in financing and distributing projects. They're now accepting applications for all three sections: Emerging Narrative (for writers and writer/directors), No Borders (for U.S. and international producers), and Spotlight on Documentaries (for U.S. filmmakers with projects in production or post-production)

Deadlines are from April 23 to May 2 and vary by section.
